[Surgical treatment of otosclerosis]

The purpose of the study was evaluation of the surgical treatment of otosclerosis by the method of small and large window. On the basis of four conversation frequencies hearing improvement was assessed in 44 ears after operation. Closure of cochlear reserve to 10 dB was obtained in 70.5% of cases. The mean hearing improvement was 29 dB. The best results were obtained with stapedotomy (small window method), particularly at 4 kHz frequencies.
