Abstract:
If hospitals were run like motels, many would have 'no vacancy' signs out front these days. For a variety of reasons, most hospitals are operating near capacity. Of course, hospitals don't like to turn away patients, so they build new space and look for ways to get patients in and out faster. Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento, CA, thinks it has hit upon the answer with a computer system that automates the patient flow management process and makes communication between staff members more efficient.
