Summary
Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging can detect microcysts in the kidneys of patients with lithium nephropathy. This imaging technique is valuable for diagnosing kidney damage caused by long-term lithium treatment.

- Renal microcysts (1-2 mm) were detected in all 16 patients.

- Cysts were equally distributed in the cortex and medulla in 11 cases and predominantly cortical in 5.
