Summary

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in tympanic membranes (TM) are expressed in response to inflammatory mediators like tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS). This suggests a role for MMPs in cholesteatoma pathogenesis.
