Summary

Congenital neutropenia (CN) is a severe condition causing low neutrophil counts and increased infections. Recombinant human granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (rHuG-CSF) effectively treats most CN patients, though risks like malignancy exist.

Background:

  • Congenital neutropenia (CN) encompasses disorders with severe neutropenia (ANC < 0.5 x 10^9/L), increasing bacterial infection susceptibility.
  • CN includes primary bone marrow failure, metabolic/immunologic disorders, and complex syndromes.
  • We advocate reserving 'CN' for severe neutropenia with myelopoiesis arrest, historically Kostmann syndrome.
