[Policies regarding non-resuscitation and cessation of treatment in Quebec hospitals]
1Départment des sciences religieuses, Université du Québec à Montréal.
Abstract:
This paper presents the results of a survey addressed between 1987 and 1989 to the directors of professional services of all Quebec hospitals. The objective was to record and analyse withholding and withdrawal of treatment policies, and in particular DNR orders. The paper summarizes the analysis of the principles and ethical values involved in existing policies. It therefore considers descriptive ethics rather than normative ethics, and does not discuss ethical issues in themselves.
