[Effects of basic fibroblast growth factor on growth of human periodontal ligament cells]
Objective:
To evaluate the biological effects of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) on proliferation and DNA synthesis of periodontal ligament cells(PDLC).
Methods:
PDLC was isolated from periodontal ligament explants. The effects of bFGF on PDLC were assayed by MTT and 3(H)-TdR incorporation studies. The results were expressed as A value and CPM. Analysis of variance was used.
Results:
bFGF could enhance the proliferation and DNA synthesis of PDLC in a dose dependent manner. No inhibition was observed within 1000ng/ml bFGF concentration. The concentration of half maximal effect was 100ng/ml.
Conclusion:
The results suggest that bFGF may play an important role in the regeneration of periodontal tissue.
