Summary
Transcervical hysteroscopic fibroid resection (TCRM) is a safe and effective treatment for submucosal fibroids. This study found TCRM to be successful in reducing symptoms for many patients.
Area of Science:
- Gynecology
- Minimally Invasive Surgery
Background:
- Uterine fibroids are common, and submucosal fibroids can cause significant symptoms.
- Transcervical hysteroscopic fibroid resection (TCRM) is a surgical option for managing these fibroids.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transcervical hysteroscopic fibroid resection (TCRM).
Main Methods:
- A retrospective review of 73 TCRM procedures performed on 68 patients over six years.
- Follow-up data was collected from 58 patients via a computerized database and mailed questionnaires.
Main Results:
- 36 of 58 patients (62%) were symptom-free post-procedure.
- 15 patients (26%) had subsequent fibroid detection, and 7 (12%) experienced unrelated complaints.
- Complications occurred in 4 cases (one perforation, three bleeding episodes).
Conclusions:
- TCRM is a safe and successful method for treating submucosal uterine fibroids.
- The procedure demonstrates a favorable outcome profile for symptom relief.
