Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Nephrology
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery

Background:

  • Hematuria of unknown origin necessitates comprehensive evaluation to rule out malignancy.
  • Renal hemangiomas are a frequent cause of chronic benign hematuria, especially in younger individuals.
  • Historically, surgical interventions such as nephrectomy were employed for these lesions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To highlight the diagnostic and therapeutic utility of ureterorenoscopy for renal hemangiomas.
  • To present ureterorenoscopy as a modern alternative to nephrectomy for benign renal lesions causing hematuria.

Main Methods:

  • Utilizing small, flexible ureteroscopes with advanced deflection capabilities.
  • Employing various endoscopic instruments including electrocautery, Nd:YAG laser, and Holmium:YAG laser for treatment.

Related Experiment Videos

Main Results:

  • Ureterorenoscopy provides an effective means for both diagnosing and treating renal hemangiomas.
  • Different endoscopic treatment modalities have yielded comparable successful outcomes.

Conclusions:

  • Ureterorenoscopy is an excellent option for managing renal hemangiomas causing hematuria.
  • This technique offers a less invasive approach compared to historical surgical methods.
