Abstract:
Skin, muscle and fat biopsy of a patient with Teutschlander syndrome was studied with light microscopy. Atrophy, sclerosis and lymphostasis of all layers of the skin with small inorganic crystals, with foreign body granulomas or without inflammatory reaction in papillary and reticular layers were observed. Fat tissue under the skin was completely replaced by masses of extra-cellular lipids. The same deposits were found in some muscles with necrosis and degradation of myofibrils. Disturbance of lipid metabolism may be a primary mechanism of this pathology.
