Summary

Neovascular membranes on choroidal nevi are rare but indicate benign tumors. Extrafoveal membranes respond well to laser treatment, while subfoveal ones have a poor prognosis.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To define the clinical presentation of choroidal nevi with induced neovascular membranes.
  • To evaluate treatment options for these neovascular membranes.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective study of 22 patients with choroidal nevi and neovascular membranes.
  • Analysis of clinical presentation, tumor characteristics, and treatment outcomes.

Main Results:

  • Nevi were located in the posterior choroid (mean diameter 3.8 mm, mean thickness 1.4 mm).
  • Neovascular membranes were classic, extrafoveal (59%), or subfoveal (41%).
