Background:

  • Primary hyperparathyroidism is a condition characterized by excessive parathyroid hormone production.
  • Chondrosarcoma is a malignant tumor arising from cartilage-forming cells.
  • The co-occurrence of these two conditions is exceptionally rare in medical literature.

Observation:

  • Two female patients, aged 66 and 36, presented with both primary hyperparathyroidism and chondrosarcoma.
  • Case 1 involved chondrosarcoma of the right scapula and parathyroid carcinoma.
  • Case 2 involved chondrosarcoma of the left proximal tibia and parathyroid adenoma.

Findings:

  • Surgical resection of chondrosarcoma and parathyroidectomy were performed in both cases.
  • Histological examination confirmed parathyroid carcinoma in one patient and parathyroid adenoma in the other.
