Peripheral retinal pathologies often require vitreous base excision in phakic (natural lens present) eyes.
Accessing the peripheral vitreous base can be challenging, risking trauma to the crystalline lens.

To describe a novel curved vitrectomy probe designed for enhanced accessibility of the peripheral retina.
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of this instrument in phakic eyes.

A 20-gauge pneumatic cutter with a curved shaft (19.4 mm radius, 25 mm length) was developed.
The probe was used via a 3.0- or 4.0-mm sclerotomy to access the ora serrata.
