Summary
Certain gene variations in interleukin (IL)-1 and ILRN may protect against gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Helicobacter pylori infection, particularly cagA-positive strains, also appears protective.

- H. pylori cagA-positive status independently protects against GERD.
- Specific IL1B and ILRN allele polymorphisms also demonstrate an independent protective role against GERD.
- These findings highlight the complex interplay between host genetics, H. pylori infection, and GERD pathogenesis.
