Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition.
  • Anogenital psoriasis can affect sensitive skin areas.
  • Scarring is not a typical feature of psoriasis.

Observation:

  • Two patients with severe, long-standing anogenital psoriasis presented with loss of the labia minora.
  • This presentation clinically mimicked the scarring seen in lichen sclerosus.
  • Histopathological examination was crucial for differential diagnosis.

Findings:

  • Histopathology confirmed psoriasis in both patients.
  • No evidence of lichen sclerosus was found.
  • Elastic fibers were present, and abnormal collagen or fibrous tissue was absent, ruling out scarring typical of other conditions.

Implications:

  • This case series highlights a rare presentation of vulval psoriasis.
  • It underscores the importance of histopathological correlation in diagnosing anogenital skin conditions.
  • The findings expand the clinical spectrum of psoriasis, particularly its potential to cause vulval structural changes.
