    Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) effectively aids smoking cessation, increasing quit rates by 1.5 to 2 times. Various NRT forms, including gum and patches, are beneficial regardless of support intensity.

    • Effectiveness was largely independent of support intensity or setting; bupropion showed higher quit rates than nicotine patches in one study.

    Conclusions:

    • All commercially available NRT forms are effective in promoting smoking cessation.
    • NRT approximately doubles the odds of quitting, irrespective of the setting.
    • While additional support is beneficial, it is not essential for NRT success.
