Abstract:
The author studied the outcomes of operative interventions in 671 patients in which various methods of plastics were applied. The incidence of recurrences was 24.5%. The author believes that local full-value tissues should be used in all cases so as to reduce the percentage of recurrent hernias. According to the size of the hernial opening, he suggests performing a modified Brenner's operation in small hernias and making additional slackening arched incisions of the aponeurosis of the external oblique muscle of the abdomen for the whole distance of the defect in the aponeurosis in moderate, large, and giant hernias. The method was used in operations on 197 patients. The long-term results were studied in 137 patients. The percentage of recurrences was 9.7%.
