Abstract:
Historically psychiatric mental health community-based clinical experiences for nursing students were primarily with client populations in traditional settings. Experiences in mental health promotion, while incorporated into most mental health nursing courses, have been limited. The authors describe undergraduate clinical experiences in mental health promotion and prevention of psychiatric problems with elementary school children. The programmatic framework, project overview for clinical experiences, specific examples of projects, outcomes, and evaluation are presented.
