    Background:

    • Occupational contact dermatitis is prevalent in veterinary surgeons, particularly those involved in obstetric work or handling cows.
    • Exposure to cows can trigger allergic reactions, including eczema flare-ups, in susceptible individuals within the veterinary profession.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the immunological basis of occupational contact dermatitis in veterinary surgeons exposed to cows.
    • To identify specific allergens responsible for allergic reactions in veterinary professionals experiencing eczema after contact with cows.

    Main Methods:

    • Serum samples were collected from nine veterinary surgeons with a history of eczema flare-ups related to cow contact.
    • Crossed radioimmunoelectrophoresis was employed to detect specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against cow allergens.

    • Immunological testing can confirm allergies to specific cow-derived allergens in affected veterinary professionals.
    • While cow hair and dander are implicated, other factors or allergens may be involved in reactions to bovine amniotic fluids.
