Background:

  • Digital flat-panel detectors enable higher spatial resolution in CT scanners than traditional multisection CT (MSCT).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of a prototype volume CT (VCT) scanner with a flat-panel detector system in defining fine temporal bone structures.
  • To compare the diagnostic performance of VCT with MSCT for temporal bone imaging.

  • Four temporal bone specimens were imaged using a prototype cone-beam VCT scanner at 150-micrometer resolution.
