Association between Thyroid Function and Ocular Parameters.

Patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome may have asymptomatic myocardial diastolic dysfunction. Echocardiography revealed significant differences in diastolic filling parameters, suggesting an association.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the frequency of asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction in patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome.

Main Methods:

  • Echocardiography was used to assess 27 patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome and 24 controls.
  • Evaluated left ventricular (LV) systolic parameters (ejection fraction, fractional shortening) and diastolic filling parameters (E wave, A wave, E/A ratio, VTIE, VTIA).

Main Results:

  • No significant differences in systolic parameters (EF, FS) or some diastolic parameters (A, LVEDP, PCWP) were observed.
  • Significant differences (P<0.05) were found in diastolic parameters E, E/A ratio, VTIE, VTIA, and VTIA/VTIE ratio.
