Abstract:
The work process within a railway mail van is analysed showing that only 4 of 14 processes are technological ones, ie specific to the mail operation. The flow of material within today's vans is very confused. For the given technical data a new design was developed using line arrangements and separated work places with specific work content. The design allows a reduction of travelling mail service staff of about 30%, with an increased system effectiveness and less stressful working conditions for the clerks.
