Summary

This study provides the first evidence of bacterial biofilms in chronic rhinosinusitis patients. These biofilms were consistently found in sinus tissues, suggesting a role in the disease.

  • Tissue specimens were obtained from the ethmoid and maxillary sinuses of 5 CRS patients undergoing surgery.
  • Specimens were processed for electron microscopy, including fixation, dehydration, and gold-palladium coating.
