A biological action of calcitonin (CT) is to inhibit osteoclastic resorption, and has the action which promotes recovery of a periodontal resorption. Although there are few studies on the effect of CT on periodontal disease, the relation between osteoporosis and periodontal disease is being to be clarified, and since osteoclasts cause resorption of the alveolar bone and the root resorption, it is considered there is a possibility of treatment of periodontal disease by CT.
