Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of zonisamide in pediatric patients with absence seizures.
  • To determine the proportion of patients achieving seizure freedom.
  • To identify adverse events associated with zonisamide use in this population.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective chart review of 45 pediatric patients diagnosed with absence seizures.
  • Patients were treated with zonisamide.
  • Efficacy was assessed by seizure freedom, and safety by adverse event monitoring.

  • 23 out of 45 patients (51.1%) achieved freedom from absence seizures.
