Summary

Imaging characteristics of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) were reviewed. Positron emission tomography (PET), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) help differentiate benign from malignant GISTs.

  • Stomach and small bowel tumors comprised 80% of GISTs.
  • Malignant GISTs were larger, heterogeneous, ulcerated, and PET positive.
