Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Pathology
  • Genetics

Background:

  • Basaloid follicular hamartoma (BFH) is a benign neoplasm of follicular origin.
  • BFH exhibits diverse clinical presentations but consistent histological features.
  • It can be inherited or acquired, with varying clinical patterns.

Observation:

  • This report details four cases of basaloid follicular hamartoma.
  • One case presented as a unique generalized variant of BFH.
  • Notably, this generalized BFH case lacked any associated systemic manifestations.

Findings:

  • The generalized variant of basaloid follicular hamartoma can occur independently of internal disorders.
  • This challenges the typical association of generalized BFH with systemic conditions like myasthenia gravis.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of BFH in all presented cases.
  • Implications:

    • Recognizing BFH variants without systemic associations is crucial for accurate diagnosis.
    • This broadens the understanding of BFH's clinical spectrum.
    • Further research may elucidate the genetic or environmental factors influencing BFH presentation.
