Summary

Rotational atherectomy offers a valuable alternative for treating critical limb ischemia, particularly in severe infrainguinal arterial occlusive disease cases. This minimally invasive technique provides a viable option when surgical revascularization is not feasible.

Area of Science:

  • Vascular Surgery
  • Interventional Cardiology
  • Endovascular Therapy

Background:

  • Critical limb ischemia (CLI) presents a significant challenge in vascular surgery.
  • Infrainguinal arterial occlusive disease often requires advanced treatment strategies.
  • Surgical revascularization may not be suitable for all CLI patients.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review the principles, history, and application of rotational atherectomy.
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of rotational atherectomy for CLI.
  • To highlight its utility in complex infrainguinal arterial occlusive disease.

Main Methods:

  • Literature review of rotational atherectomy devices and techniques.
  • Analysis of clinical outcomes in patients with limb-threatening ischemia.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Comparison with traditional surgical revascularization approaches.
  • Main Results:

    • Rotational atherectomy is a useful tool for treating infrainguinal arterial occlusive disease.
    • It provides an alternative to surgical revascularization in challenging cases.
    • The technique is effective for limb salvage in patients with CLI.

    Conclusions:

    • Rotational atherectomy is a valuable option for managing critical limb ischemia.
    • It is particularly beneficial for severe infrainguinal arterial occlusive disease.
    • This approach enhances limb salvage rates in high-risk patients.
