Summary
Magnetic resonance (MR)-guided cryoablation safely treated multiple renal cell carcinomas (RCCs) in a patient. This minimally invasive procedure preserved kidney function despite tumor proximity challenges.

- A 35-year-old woman presented with five renal cell carcinomas (RCCs), two in the left kidney and three in the right.
- Percutaneous cryoablation was performed using an argon-based system with 2- or 3-mm cryoprobes under magnetic resonance (MR) guidance.
- Tumor proximity to adjacent organs necessitated stopping ablation in two instances to prevent complications.
Findings:
- Three of the five renal cell carcinomas were completely ablated.
- No complications were encountered during or after the procedure.
- Renal function was preserved post-ablation.
Implications:
- MR-guided percutaneous cryoablation is a safe and effective treatment for multiple, bilateral renal cell carcinomas.
- The technique allows for preservation of renal function in complex cases.
- This approach may be a viable alternative to traditional surgery for select RCC patients.
