Abstract:
[6n]Paracyclophenediynes 2a-d (n = 3-6) having [4.3.2]propellatriene units were prepared as precursors of the corresponding [6n]paracyclophynes. Laser irradiation of 2a-d produced the negative ions of [6n]paracyclophynes 1a-d (n = 3-6) by extrusion of the indan fragments, which were detected by time-of-flight mass spectrometry.

Halogenation is another class of electrophilic addition reactions where a halogen molecule gets added across a π bond. In alkynes, the presence of two π bonds allows for the addition of two equivalents of halogens (bromine or chlorine). The addition of the first halogen molecule forms a trans-dihaloalkene as the major product and the cis isomer as the minor product.
