Summary
Mouse APOBEC2 and APOBEC3, despite their proposed roles, are not essential for mouse development or survival. Gene-targeting experiments show these activation-induced deaminase/apolipoprotein B-editing catalytic subunit 1 (AID/APOBEC) family members have no critical function in mice.
