Summary

Pediatric-onset mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) is not benign but has lower mortality rates compared to adult-onset MCTD. This study reviews existing literature and presents 34 new pediatric cases.

Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) is a rare autoimmune disorder.
Pediatric-onset MCTD is less understood than adult-onset MCTD.

Purpose of the Study:

To review the current literature on pediatric-onset MCTD.
To present data from 34 new cases of pediatric-onset MCTD.
To compare the clinical characteristics and outcomes of pediatric-onset MCTD with adult-onset MCTD.

Main Methods:

Literature review of pediatric-onset MCTD.
Retrospective analysis of 34 new pediatric cases.

Main Results:

Pediatric-onset MCTD, while serious, demonstrates lower mortality rates than adult-onset MCTD.
