Purpose:
To evaluate the results of hyperopic LASIK in children and adolescents with accommodative strabismus and refractive amblyopia.
Methods:
The procedures were conducted by standard methods of LASIK using a Technolas 217C excimer laser (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, NY).
Results:
LASIK resolved the accommodative components of strabismus by achieving stabilization of visual acuity and decrease (or disappearance) of amblyopia degree. All patients achieved binocular vision.
Conclusions:
Excimer laser correction of hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism in children and adolescents has the potential to correct refractive errors, improve visual function in amblyopic eyes, correct accommodative strabismus, and improve binocular vision.
