Area of Science:

  • Social Sciences
  • Psychology
  • Organizational Behavior

Background:

  • Initial findings by Blau and Tatum (2000) explored perceived gender discrimination (PGD).
  • The current study investigates correlates of PGD in medical technologists (MTs).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine the relationship between organizational justice (distributive, procedural, interactional) and internal-external locus of control with PGD.
  • To assess how time intervals affect these relationships.

Main Methods:

  • A five-year study involving 201 medical technologists.
  • Measurement of perceived gender discrimination (PGD), organizational justice (distributive, procedural, interactional), and locus of control.
  • Statistical analysis to determine relationships and temporal effects.

Related Experiment Videos

Main Results:

  • Internal locus of control was associated with lower PGD.
  • Distributive, procedural, and interactional justice were negatively related to PGD.
  • The strength of these relationships decreased with longer time intervals, with interactional justice being the most resilient.

Conclusions:

  • Organizational justice and locus of control are significant factors influencing perceived gender discrimination among medical technologists.
  • Interactional justice demonstrates a robust association with PGD, even over extended periods.
  • Findings contribute to understanding workplace dynamics and discrimination in healthcare professions.
