[Hyperhomocysteinemia in patients with cerebral stroke]
Abstract:
Moderate hyperhomocysteinemia often accompanies cerebral strokes. The aim of this study was to evaluate serum levels of homocysteine in patients with stroke, and its dependence on stroke type, the patient's age and gender, presence or absence of arterial hypertension (AH) background, and cholesterol level. The subjects were 71 patients and 23 healthy adults. The results demonstrate a significant elevation of homocysteine concentration in the stroke patient vs. the healthy subjects, and its dependence on gender, AH background, repeated strokes, and cholesterol level (p < 0.05).
