[Radial keratotomy and the factors determining its effectiveness]

The authors present a short history of the development of the idea and technique of the radial keratotomy. They discuss the individual factors as well topical (corneal curvature, intraocular pressure) as general (age, sex) and also surgical parameters influencing the final effect of operation and its stability. Presented are: the indications and contraindications for the procedure, the preoperative approach, surgical technique and the postoperative treatment.
