Area of Science:

  • General Surgery
  • Minimally Invasive Procedures
  • Gastrointestinal Surgery

Context:

  • Gallstone disease is a common condition requiring surgical intervention.
  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) has become the standard surgical approach.
  • Evaluating surgical techniques and outcomes is crucial for optimizing patient care.

Purpose:

  • To analyze the outcomes of 153 laparoscopic cholecystectomies (LC) performed by a single surgical team.
  • To identify technical recommendations for safe and effective LC procedures.
  • To assess the safety and efficacy of LC for gallstone disease.

Summary:

  • A single surgical team performed 153 laparoscopic cholecystectomies (LC) for various gallstone conditions.
  • The procedures demonstrated a low conversion rate (6.5%) and no serious intraoperative or postoperative complications.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Key metrics included mean operative time of 65 minutes and a mean postoperative stay of 2.21 days.
  • Impact:

    • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is confirmed as a safe and effective treatment for symptomatic gallstone disease.
    • Experienced surgical teams can achieve excellent outcomes with minimal complications.
    • Findings support the continued use of LC as the gold standard in gallstone management.
