Malignant meningioma: computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging characteristics

Abstract:
Malignant meningioma is a relatively rare subtype of meningioma demonstrating an aggressive growth pattern, distinct histologic features, and a propensity for recurrence following surgical resection. There has been little consensus regarding imaging features of malignant meningioma, and typically the degree of tumor aggressiveness is determined by pathology. Here we describe a case of malignant meningioma determined to be benign at initial biopsy. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging are reviewed with discussion of the aggressive features seen at presentation.
