    Summary

Psychiatric patients with high misguided entitlement (ME) showed correlations with aggression, sociopathy, and paranoia. The Entitlement Scale (ES) proved reliable for measuring these behaviors.

    Area of Science:

    • Psychiatry
    • Clinical Psychology
    • Personality Disorders

    Background:

    • Misguided entitlement (ME) is a theoretical construct suggesting specific personality traits.
    • Previous theories proposed links between ME and narcissism, aggression, sociopathy, paranoia, and depression.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between "misguided entitlement" (ME) and specific personality traits in psychiatric patients.
    • To validate the use of the Millon Multiaxial Clinical Inventory (MMCI-II) and a newly devised Entitlement Scale (ES) in this population.

    Main Methods:

    • Administered the Millon Multiaxial Clinical Inventory (MMCI-II) to 100 psychiatric patients.
    • Utilized a staff-rated Entitlement Scale (ES) to assess observed entitled behaviors in the same patients.
    • Performed statistical analyses to correlate scores from both instruments.

    Main Results:

    • High ME (indicated by low ES scores) significantly correlated with higher scores on the MMCI-II's aggression, sociopathy, and paranoia scales.
    • No significant correlations were found between high ME and narcissistic or depressive personality patterns.
    • The Entitlement Scale (ES) demonstrated validity and reliability in measuring behavioral manifestations of ME.

    Conclusions:

    • The study partially supported the theoretical framework regarding "misguided entitlement" and personality traits.
    • Findings suggest ME is behaviorally linked to aggression, sociopathy, and paranoia in psychiatric patients.
    • The Entitlement Scale (ES) is a viable tool for assessing entitled behaviors in clinical settings.
