Hybrid µCT-FMT imaging and image analysis

Abstract:
Breast CT plays roles in the following: (1) to determine the extent of breast cancer to perform the appropriate breast conserving surgery (BCS). Extensive intraductal components (EIC) are depicted as tumor and spots type or linear type. The sensitivity and specificity for the detection of EIC were 82-88% and 75-89%, respectively; (2) to determine the appropriate surgical resection after primary systemic therapy(PST). The pathological extent of tumors significantly correlated with the extension revealed by CT both with and without PST. The classification of the tumors into localized or non-localized types using CT before PST, accurately predicts which tumors will be suitable candidates for BCS; (3) to diagnose lymph node metastasis for choosing candidates for sentinel lymph node biopsy.
