Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Hematology
  • Otolaryngology

Background:

  • Extranodal laryngeal lymphoma is an exceptionally rare clinical finding.
  • Primary laryngeal lymphoma requires careful consideration in the differential diagnosis of laryngeal masses.

Observation:

  • A 76-year-old male presented with a 7-week history of progressive hoarseness.
  • Laryngoscopy revealed asymmetry of the right false vocal fold, prompting further investigation.

Findings:

  • A deep biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of malignant, diffuse, CD20-positive, B-cell lymphoma.
  • The patient's stage IE lymphoma achieved complete remission following treatment with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (CHOP) chemotherapy combined with rituximab.

Implications:

  • Early detection and prompt treatment are crucial for favorable outcomes in laryngeal lymphoma.
  • Vigilance for this rare laryngeal tumor is warranted due to the potential severity of a missed diagnosis.
