Endocrine intervention during irradiation does not prevent damage to the thyroid gland

Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) manipulation did not protect rats from radiation-induced thyroid damage. Inhibiting thyroid activity with thyroxine or iodine during x-irradiation showed no significant reduction in hypothyroidism or thyroid carcinoma.

- Further research may be needed to explore alternative radioprotective strategies for the thyroid gland.
