Area of Science:

  • Breast pathology
  • Surgical oncology
  • Diagnostic imaging

Background:

  • Mammary hamartomas are uncommon benign breast lesions.
  • Often underdiagnosed due to lack of distinct pathological features.
  • Increased detection with advanced diagnostic techniques.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report clinicopathological features of mammary hamartomas.
  • To emphasize the importance of multidisciplinary diagnostic correlation.
  • To outline a management plan for these lesions.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 8 mammary hamartoma cases.
  • Review of clinical presentation, imaging (mammography, ultrasound), and histopathology.
  • Evaluation of diagnostic procedures including Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology and Needle Core Biopsy.

Related Experiment Videos

Main Results:

  • Patients aged 34-67 presented with palpable, well-circumscribed breast lumps.
  • Diagnostic modalities included mammography, ultrasound, and cytology/biopsy.
  • One case showed recurrence with aggressive histology; another co-occurred with invasive ductal carcinoma.

Conclusions:

  • Mammary hamartoma diagnosis necessitates integrated clinical, radiological, and pathological assessment.
  • Tumorectomy is the standard treatment.
  • Awareness of potential recurrence and co-existing malignancies is crucial.
