Summary

Osteochondroma, a common benign bone tumor, can rarely affect the mandibular coronoid process. Surgical removal effectively treated a case, restoring normal mouth opening.

Background:

  • Osteochondroma is the most prevalent benign skeletal neoplasm.
  • While occurring in various head locations, osteochondroma of the coronoid process is exceptionally rare.
  • This study reviews literature and presents a case of coronoid process osteochondroma.

Observation:

  • A 44-year-old female presented with limited mouth opening and a painless, bony swelling on the left cheek.
  • Panoramic radiographs revealed a tumor at the zygomatic arch-mandible junction.
  • No temporomandibular joint disease was noted.

Findings:

  • Coronoidectomy was performed under general anesthesia.
  • Post-operative mouth opening improved to 43 mm without complications.
