Thymic dendritic cells (TDC) develop a Langerhans-cell-like phenotype during human development. Granulocyte/macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) produced by thymic epithelial cells (TEC) in Hassal's corpuscles may drive this TDC differentiation.
