Area of Science:

  • Pharmacology
  • Crystallography
  • Neuroscience

Background:

  • Ropinirole hydrochloride is a non-ergoline dopamine agonist.
  • It exhibits selectivity for D2-like receptors (D3 > D2 > D4).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To elucidate the crystal structure of ropinirole hydrochloride.
  • To understand the molecular interactions and binding characteristics.

Main Methods:

  • X-ray crystallography was employed to determine the crystal structure.
  • Analysis of hydrogen bonding and ionic interactions.

Main Results:

  • The crystal structure shows ropinirole hydrochloride as diethyl[2-(2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indol-4-yl)ethyl]ammonium chloride.
  • The N atom in the ethylamine side chain is protonated and forms a hydrogen bond with the Cl- ion.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Two cations and two anions form inversion-related cyclic dimers via N-H...Cl hydrogen bonds.
  • Conclusions:

    • The crystal structure provides insights into the physical state and intermolecular interactions of ropinirole hydrochloride.
    • Understanding these interactions is crucial for drug design and formulation.
