Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) express tissue factor (TF) upon stimulation. This suggests inflammatory cells and platelets are key in thrombus formation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) serve as a source of tissue factor (TF).

Main Methods:

  • Human PMN were isolated and stimulated with P-selectin or fMLP.
  • TF procoagulant activity and TF antigen (TF:Ag) were measured using TF MoAb and flow cytometry.
  • TF mRNA levels were assessed via real-time PCR (RT-PCR).
