Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Medical Imaging
  • Digital Image Analysis

Background:

  • Accurate measurement of anterior segment lesions is crucial for diagnosis and monitoring.
  • Existing methods may be time-consuming or require specialized equipment.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe a straightforward technique for measuring anterior segment lesions from digital slit lamp images.
  • To validate the reliability of this measurement method.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized Adobe Photoshop and Excel for image analysis and data conversion.
  • Two independent observers measured epithelial defect areas from 69 digital images.
  • Interrater reliability assessed using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman plots.

Related Experiment Videos

Main Results:

  • Achieved excellent interrater reliability with an ICC of 0.99.
  • Bland-Altman analysis showed high agreement between observers, with 95% of measurements within a narrow range.

Conclusions:

  • The described method is simple, accurate, and reliable for measuring anterior segment lesions from digital images.
  • This technique is a valuable tool for both clinical documentation and research applications.
