Background:

  • Matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8), or neutrophil collagenase, was traditionally associated with neutrophil function and extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation.
  • Emerging research indicates broader expression patterns and functional significance for MMP-8.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review recent findings on the multifaceted roles of MMP-8.
  • To highlight MMP-8's involvement in inflammation and cancer progression.

Main Methods:

  • Literature review of recent experimental findings.
  • Analysis of studies investigating MMP-8 expression and function across various cell types.

Main Results:

  • MMP-8 expression is not limited to neutrophils.

Related Experiment Videos
