Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Transitional cell neoplasms are the most common ureteral tumors.
  • Neuroendocrine tumors within the genitourinary tract are exceptionally rare.
  • Previous literature documents only one prior instance of a ureteral carcinoid tumor.

Observation:

  • A case of a ureteral carcinoid tumor was identified in a 70-year-old female patient.
  • This represents the second documented occurrence of this rare tumor type in the ureter.

Findings:

  • The patient presented with a ureteral carcinoid tumor.
  • This case adds to the scarce existing data on ureteral neuroendocrine neoplasms.

Implications:

  • This report underscores the necessity of including rare entities in the differential diagnosis of ureteral masses.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Further research may be warranted to understand the pathogenesis and optimal management of ureteral carcinoid tumors.
